BARLEY COCKTAILS

STIR IT. SHAKE IT. BUILD IT. SIP IT.

The Heart Cut x BARLEY was built to be drunk how you like it. Neat or with a drop of water, sure - but it also happens to make a very good cocktail. So here's three to try at home: a summer Negroni, a spiced Old Fashioned, and a highball you can build in the time it takes to read this sentence.

Strawberry negroni

A summer take on a Negroni, with BARLEY at its heart. And for those of you going "isn't this a Boulevardier?" - yes. Yes it is.
  • 30ml The Heart Cut x BARLEY
  • 30ml Dolin Chambéryzette
  • 20ml Campari

Method: Stir over ice. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a strawberry.

Make your own Strawberry Vermouth

No Chambéryzette in the cupboard? Make a strawberry vermouth at home and swap it in measure-for-measure. It's barely a recipe — more of a wait — and it keeps in the fridge for a week or so once strained.

  • 200ml dry vermouth
  • 8 strawberries, halved

Method: Pour the vermouth into a clean jar. Add the strawberries, cover, and shake gently to coax the flavour out. Leave to stand at room temperature for 24 hours - giving it a shake whenever you walk past. Strain twice before using - once to get the strawberries out; the second time through a coffee filter to remove all the strawberry pips.

SPICED HONEY OLD FASHIONED

Old Fashioned Drinkers - this is for you. The honey and spice wrap around BARLEY's fruity core for a delicious twist on a classic.
  • 50ml The Heart Cut x BARLEY
  • 10ml Spiced Honey Syrup
  • Dash Orange bitters
  • Dash Angostura bitters

Method: Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass. Add cubed ice and stir until cold (about 30 seconds). Strain into a rocks glass over a large block of ice. Garnish with an orange twist.

Spiced Honey Syrup: Gently heat 100ml water with 1 small cinnamon stick, 3 slices of fresh ginger, 1 orange peel and 2 lightly crushed cardamom pods for 5 minutes. Stir in 200ml honey until combined. Cool before using.

BARLEY HIGHBALL

The easy one. Spiced, citrussy, refreshing — and built in under a minute. Our go-to when the sun's out.
  • 40ml The Heart Cut x BARLEY
  • 150ml Fever-Tree Spiced Orange Ginger Ale

Method: Add ingredients to an ice-filled highball glass. Stir. Garnish with an orange wedge.
